The Team

Dan Metcalfe – Installation Artist and Project Lead

Dan studied agriculture at both Askham Bryan and Bishop Burton colleges. After a short time farming the family farm he set up as a landscaper in an attempt to find an outlet for his growing creativity. Whilst no longer in agriculture he remains in touch and influenced by the land, nature and the elements and uses his landscapes as a canvas to create, incorporating his earthy love of nature and rural Yorkshire upbringing.

Joe Priestley – Visual Media Artist, Publicist and Photographer

Joe is a trained archaeologist and historian, working largely in public engagement. He is a lover of photography and film making, sharing his learning through those mediums with the widest possible audience.

Joe has worked in the performing arts, heritage sector and for national organisations such as the National Trust and Church of England. He is currently working at Nosterfield Local Nature Reserve, the Vision Project, Sharow and Beningbrough Hall.

Jeanne Mundy – Artist and Illustrator

Since November 2017, Jeanne has worked with Dan Metcalfe to provide a series of silhouettes of WW1 soldiers for the project ‘Fields of Mud, Seeds of Hope’ for the installation in Ripon Cathedral and around the town of Ripon as part of the Wilfred Owen memorial walk.

In addition she is working on her own paintings, which will also form part of the exhibition in the cathedral. She was tasked with providing a drawing for Dan’s commission of a 7 foot high Scottish kilted soldier, installed at the Gardening Scotland exhibition in July 2018 to commemorate these who fell, and those who returned from the First World War, inspired by Scottish poet Charles Hamilton Sorley who died aged 20 at the Battle of Loos.
